Anthony Phillips was one of the founding members of Genesis, having attended the Charterhouse School in Surrey with Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, and Michael Rutherford. Phillips and Rutherford were the principal composing members of Genesis during their formative years, right into their first recording venture on English Decca.
Anthony released his first solo album, The Geese And The Ghost, in 1977, followed by Wise After The Event a year later and then a collection of early demo recordings, Private Parts And Pieces, also issued in 1978.
Anthony is a guitarist of supreme skill and confidence, steeped in classical, pre-Baroque, and folk influences. He also applies his skills on synthesizer and Mellotron to his work and has released a huge body of material that has remained popular among his broad fan base. Anthony writes a considerable amount of music for television and media including the ITV Survival Special wildlife programmes.
He has provided music for the series since the early 90s including Land of Dragons, Tiwai Island of the Ape,
Bears of the Russian Front and Dungeons and Dragons. He has also written with Joji Hirota on Creatures of the Magic Water and Jurassic Shark . His first BBC TV music commission was for Midway: Island of Life in 2000.
Anthony has also written for radio and continues to write for numerous library music projects. |
