| Cathy Dennis is one of the most successful, influential and prolific writers
of over the last ten years. She is one of the most talented British writers ever
and she shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. Her career in music started
when she was spotted by Simon Fuller. Cathy subsequently was signed by Polydor
Records, her career as an artist garnered her three US top ten hits from her
debut album and she was in fact the most successful UK singles artist in the US
charts in 1991. She released two further albums which spawned such hits as Why
and Irresistible. Since the release of her third album Cathy has focused
exclusively on songwriting for other artists and has penned hits for some of the
biggest artists from the UK and the US including Britney Spears, Celine Dion,
Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Delta Goodrem, The Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue, S
Club, Will Young, Gareth Gates, S Club 8 and the theme from Pop (American)
Idol.
In 2001 and 2002 Cathy had four UK/US #1 singles with Can’t Get You Out Of
My Head – Kylie, Have You Ever – S Club, Anything Is Possible – Will Young
and Before Your Love – Kelly Clarkson. The song Can’t Get You Out Of My Head
was a huge International hit that was #1 in 15 countries and earned Cathy three
Ivor Novello Awards. Anything Is Possible was the fastest selling debut song
of all time and the 12th biggest selling song in the UK in the all time charts,
and of course the best selling song of 2002.
In 2003 Cathy wrote 2 tracks, including the title track Measure of a Man,
for the 2 million selling plus debut from Clay Aiken, she also had a track on
Celine Dion’s LP, a track, After Dark on the Kylie record Body Language, the
smash Sweet Dreams My LA-Ex for Rachel Stevens including a further three on
her debut album Funky Dory which were Glide, Heaven Has To Wait and
Little Secret. Cathy also wrote Misbehavin’ and Another Girl for
Virgin US artist Thalia, as well as writing Throw It Away which was on the
million selling Delta Goodrem debut LP.
In 2004 Cathy had two tracks on the US#1 record In The Zone from Britney
Spears which has sold over 6 million copies, including her huge hit Toxic
which has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide.
Cathy has worked with Paris Hilton & Scott Storch for their albums and penned the Top 10 single by Sophie Ellis-Bextor 'Catch You'. She wrote the recent no. 1
Sugababes single 'About You Now' and has a cut on the new Carrie Underwood record and a cut on David Guetta's album 'Baby When The Light' which will be the next single. Currently, she is writing with Primal Scream. |
