In 1974, the six-man COMMODORES locked in their first chart record - a powerful instrumental called MACHINE GUN (Milan Williams). They went on to log up seven R&B #1 records on Motown ranging from the funk classic BRICK HOUSE to the equally unforgettable ballad EASY. For the latter, with its chorus hook "That's why I'm easy...I'm easy like Sunday morning", the spotlight was on one of the group's leading members, Lionel Richie. In 1982, Lionel left the group to start what became a hugely--successful solo career, writing and performing and producing other acts. The group continued without Lionel and in the past few years, talk of a Commodores reunion seemed far from a possibility. But, in a recent interview with British "Blues & Soul" magazine, Lionel hinted that the chances of seeing all the guys back together again could well be on the cards. "It may be ironic", he told reporter Pete Lewis, "but what I'm finding out now is that if there's something harder than being in a group, it's putting a group back together!" He continued: "Because, while we started out all living in the same city, today - with members living in Auckland (New Zealand) and Florida and Atlanta and LA - it's become much more difficult for us to hook up! So, basically, where we're at right now is me saying to them 'You get The Commodores together and I'll join you!' I think they're really enthusiastic about doing it so it's really just a case now of one member grabbing the rest of the guys by the hand and saying 'This way'!
