EMI Music Publishing sweeps the BMI Urban Awards, and picks up Music Publisher of the Year

EMI Music Publishing swept all the major awards at the 2007 BMI Urban Awards, as its unrivalled roster of R&B, rap and hip-hop songwriters helped the company win the Urban Publisher of the Year prize at the event which was held in Las Vegas on Friday night (September 7).

EMI Music Publishing lifted the title after scoring the highest percentage of copyright ownership in individual songs picking up awards at the ceremony. In all, EMI Music Publishing songwriters picked up awards for 16 songs. Among EMI Music Publishing's award-winning songs were chart-topping hits Irreplaceable (StarGate), Déjà Vu (co-written by Rodney Jerkins), Money Maker (Pharrell Williams) and Snap Yo Fingers (Alphonzo Bailey and E-40).

Atlanta songwriter and producer Mr. ColliPark won his first BMI Songwriter of the Year crown, after composing four songs on the BMI's most-performed list. Mr ColliPark co-penned the Ying Yang Twins' Badd, Diddy's Come to Me, Bubba Sparxxx's Ms. New Booty and David Banner's Play.

Check On It, which was co-written by EMI Music Publishing songwriter Slim Thug, earned him the prestigious Song of the Year award. Slim Thug performed on the track with Beyoncé, helping the song become a worldwide hit.

EMI Music Publishing songwriter Pharrell Williams earned his third BMI Producer of the Year title for scoring the most producer credits on charting songs. The BMI Top Urban Producers list also included EMI Music Publishing's Kanye West.

EMI Music Publishing Executive Vice-President and Head of Urban Music Big Jon Platt said: "This is an amazing honor for EMI Music Publishing's urban roster of songwriters, and it's rewarding to see their success recognized at such an important awards ceremony. I believe that we have the best group of urban songwriters in the business, and it is due to their creative talents and passion that EMI Music Publishing is privileged enough to be named urban publisher of the year."
