Feb 21, 2008

EMI Music Publishing songwriters are celebrating another triumphant night at the BRITS, after picking up six awards at the ceremony at London’s Earl’s Court last night. This is the second consecutive year that EMI Music Publishing songwriters have won BRIT awards in six of the overall twelve categories.

The Arctic Monkeys scored a double triumph at the show, winning both Best British Group, and Best British Album for Favourite Worst Nightmare. The Sheffield band had won the same awards at the 2007 BRITS, following the success of their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

Take That also won two BRIT awards, picking up the Best British Single prize for the second consecutive year, for their UK number one hit Shine. The band also triumphed in the Best British Live Act, reflecting the success of a punishing schedule of sell-out arena dates over the course of the last year.

EMI Music Publishing writer and producer Mark Ronson became the the first non-singer to win the Best Male Artist award, and celebrated by performing live at the ceremony with fellow EMI Music Publishing songwriter Amy Winehouse. Both Ronson and Winehouse were big winners at last week’s Grammy awards in Los Angeles, with Ronson winning Best Producer and Winehouse scoring five wins including Song Of The Year for Rehab.

Fellow multiple-Grammy award winner and EMI Music Publishing songwriter Kanye West capped a memorable ten days by winning the BRIT award for Best International Male. West won four Grammys last week, including Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album.

EMI Music Publishing UK Managing Director Guy Moot commented: “After the success of writers such as Amy Winehouse at the Grammys, it’s incredibly satisfying to see such a diverse range of our writers and artists perform so well at the BRITS. We’re honoured to be able to work with such incredibly talented creative people, and we’re looking forward to another twelve months of continued success.”
